Jonathan Chang is Vice President of VSMC joint venture by VIS and NxP, overseeing the company setup Project Management Office (PMO), Strategic Planning, and Digitalization initiatives. With 30+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry, one of the world’s most complex manufacturing sectors—he has played a pivotal role in advancing wafer fabrication systems and manufacturing capability across 200mm (SSMC, VIS), 300mm (TSMC, Qimonda), and 450mm (TSMC) technologies. His expertise spans end-to-end semiconductor manufacturing, driving excellence in productivity (OEE), cycle time (CT), and innovation.
Jonathan holds 40+ global patents and published papers extensively on advanced engineering control, 300mm full automation, and intelligent manufacturing systems. He has collaborated with academia to establish Intelligent Manufacturing Management Lab in several universities and semiconductor manufacturing management course for high school (registered by 81 schools in 2025). His contributions extend to industry standards as Chair of the IEEE P2671 standard, and his work has been honored with the 2023 Industrial Engineering Award by the Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineers.
Jonathan’s research focuses on operational excellence through cutting-edge manufacturing design—bridging Industry 3.0, 4.0, and today’s AI 2.0. He champions the integration of semiconductor manufacturing theory with modern IT (e.g., AI, automation) to transform manufacturing performance, proving that sustainable innovation for semiconductor manufacturing management.
