European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan, Head of Trade Section, European Commission
Christoph Saurenbach joined the European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan in September 2024 as the Head of Trade Section. He worked as the Team Leader in the Far East Unit at DG TRADE from 2023 to 2024.
Before that, he worked on the EU response to Russia’s war against Ukraine in DG ECHO from 2022 to 2023, focusing on international coordination of humanitarian aid.
From 2015 to 2022, he served as Head of the Economic and Trade Section at the EU Delegation to Colombia and Ecuador, and in the Trade Section of the EU Delegation to China.
Between 2013 and 2015, he worked as a Policy Officer for Trade Defence Strategy at DG TRADE. He previously worked on EU-Ukraine relations as a Project Manager at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, and Country Economist for Ukraine at DG ECFIN.
Before joining the EU institutions, Mr. Saurenbach worked as an Advisor to the Government of Ukraine with the German development agency GIZ from 2005 to 2009.
Christoph Saurenbach has a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations (TU Dresden), a Master’s Degree in Russian and Post-Soviet Studies (London School of Economics), and a postgraduate degree in Public Financial Management (University College London).
