Industry Futures
The SEMI International Trade Partners Conference (ITPC), is an annual industry gathering that promotes open dialogue and fosters rapport among the world's top executives in the semiconductor and microelectronics manufacturing ecosystem.
This year’s ITPC conference theme, “Industry Futures,” is a call to envision the trends and technologies that are shaping the semiconductor manufacturing sector. The conference discussion will encompass macro-influences, market drivers, supply chain strategies and enabling fab technologies that will define the industry landscape and aid executives in their preparation and decisions in the years ahead.
There will be a particular focus on the growing economic tensions and geopolitical concerns, such as the U.S.-China trade war and the Japan-Korea dispute, which have emerged in the past year. All of this will directly impact operations for semiconductor companies.
Industry experts and leading executives from around the world will gather at ITPC to share unique insights into the global ecosystem, business opportunities and technology collaboration in the semiconductor supply chain.

Theme Banquet: Paniolo, The Hawaiian Cowboy
For one night, let us share in this cultural experience and celebrate the paniolos. For the theme banquet on Monday, November 4, please feel free to come dressed in your favorite cowboy hat and boots. We’ll have accessories ready for you.
When most people think of Hawaii, they think of its crystalline waters and soft sand beaches. Perhaps one of the most native experiences to the Hawaiian Islands is also the most overlooked—the history and existence of the Hawaiian cowboy.
The story of the paniolo
In 1793, King Kamehameha was gifted with five longhorns and placed a kappa (protection) over the cattle, allowing them to roam and multiply. This led to a booming beef trade and high demand for ranchers in Hawaii. Vaqueros, Mexican cowboys, soon arrived on the islands to teach the locals how to corral. Thus, began the culture of the Hawaiian cowboy, known to us now as the paniol
The world “paniolo” allegedly comes from the Hawaiian version of the word “español.” A cross between Mexican and Hawaiian cultures, the paniolo had a key role in providing a large source of income and trade for the islands. However, with the main exports shifting away from the beef trade, the future of the paniolo culture is at risk and as the industry fades away from the Hawaiian Islands, so does the treasured culture of these cattle ranchers.
There is a universal cowboy culture and a love for what they do that remains unchanged and fortunately, many people don’t want the paniolo culture to go away at all. In fact, it is celebrated. Historic Makawao in upcountry Maui hosts a Paniolo Parade and the Kamehameha Parade each year. Spectators come to see the unique paniolo tradition of wearing ponchos and cowboy hats, adorned with their own leis, trotting down the road.
