International PV Quality Assurance Task Force Forms PV System Issues Task Group

International PV Quality Assurance Task Force Forms PV System Issues Task Group

By Sarah Kurtz, NREL

The International PV Module Quality Assurance Task Force has been working toward the goals of:

  1. A comparative test standard that can differentiate product designs suitable for a range of climate zone
  2. A standard for audits of quality management systems to ensure consistent manufacture of those designs.

As we worked toward implementation of these, IEC helped by proposing IEC RE, which is intended to issue certificates for PV systems.  Pending all final approvals, these certificates will assess all aspects of the system including the durability and consistent quality of components and the adequacy of design, installation, and operation of the system.  In anticipation of IEC's final approval of IEC RE's efforts to begin issuing certificates by the end of 2015, the Task Force has decided to broaden our scope by removing the word "module" from our name, now becoming the "International PV Quality Assurance Task Force" and forming an 11th task group to focus on PV system issues.

We request that those of you who are interested in joining Task Group 11 contact sarah.kurtz@nrel.gov.

We are looking for a volunteer to lead this group and we hope to start regular meetings within the next month.

Thank you for the interest in this work.
Sarah Kurtz, John Wohlgemuth, Michio Kondo, Masaaki Yamamichi, Tony Sample, and George Kelly
