Widening the Solar Value Chain: SOLARCON India 2011 Kicks Off on November 9 in Hyderabad
Over 70 speakers to discuss trends, opportunities and challenges in the Indian solar industry; Over 110 companies showcasing products and solutions in the exhibition
HYDERABAD, India — November 3, 2011 — SOLARCON India 2011, the third edition of India’s largest solar energy focused event (organized by SEMI India) will commence on November 9 at HICC Hyderabad. SOLARCON India is comprised of an exhibition, a conference and parallel technical events. The theme for this year’s exposition, representing the widening solar value chain in India, is “Showcasing the Solar Eco-System: From Polysilicon to Power Plants.” Featuring more than 70 speakers drawn from the industry, academia and government, the conference is themed "Charting India's Roadmap to Solar Leadership— Translating Potential into Reality." James G. Brown (president, Utility Systems Business Group, First Solar) will deliver the inaugural keynote on "The Road Ahead for Solar PV Growth— Revolution or Evolution?" Both the exhibition and the conference will focus on implementing change and meeting upcoming challenges. The conference attracts high-profile participation of solar energy leaders from all segments of the industry supply chain, academia and governments from India and around the world.
The event is certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce, and features an exclusive U.S. Pavilion with 14 leading U.S. companies participating. A 35-member Clean Tech delegation— led by the U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for international trade, Francisco J. Sanchez— will be present at the show. The conference includes an LED summit (co-organized with Frost & Sullivan) which will focus on SSL (solid state lighting) technology with speakers from LED manufacturers, LED suppliers, researchers and others. Industry estimates suggest that the market share of LEDs will rise to 15-20 percent of the overall lighting industry by 2014 from a current 2-3 percent market share. LED lighting will play a major role in the adoption of energy efficient products to mitigate the challenges of climate change, which the Indian government aggressively pursues. Third edition will also include a short technical course on “Grid Connected Solar PV Systems” (held in collaboration with National Centre for PV Research and Education). In addition, First Solar is organizing a half-day Technology Seminar.
The Honorable Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, Dr Farooq Abdullah, is expected to be the chief guest at the inauguration of the three-day exposition and conference and the Honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy has been invited to preside over the function. Shri G.B. Pradhan, IAS, Secretary, MNRE, Francisco J. Sanchez, U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce, K. Subramanya, Chairperson, SEMI India PV Advisory Committee, James G. Brown, President, Utility Systems Business Group, First Solar, will be among those present at the inauguration.
Dr. Bharat Bhargava, Dir PV, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India, Dr. Josef J. Haase, CEO Cell & Module, Centrotherm PV and James G. Brown (president, Utility Systems Business Group, First Solar) will deliver inaugural keynotes at the conference.
According to Debasish Paul Choudhury, president, SEMI India, “SOLARCON India 2011 will focus on representing the widening solar value chain in India, and the theme ’Showcasing the Solar Eco-System: From Polysilicon to Power Plant’ and achieving 20,000 MW of solar generation capacity by 2022. This year’s edition of SOLARCON India will bring together the best professionals from industry, government, academia, as well as financiers to discuss key implementation aspects and challenges ahead."
