Driven by new applications such as Internet of things, smart manufacturing or autonomous driving, Europe’s microelectronics industry shows a strong growth momentum. MEMS, Sensors or FDSOI based chip generations are the key technology ingredients for the success of such new applications. Europe has a clear leadership for those technologies today and intends to play further an important role in the future. Three major announcements of manufacturing investments just in the last 6 months by world-leading companies, such as ST Microelectronics in Crolles, France and BOSCH and Globalfoundries in Dresden, Germany starting a wave of a new high demand on new talents. The capability to fill the talent pipeline and to keep talents in Europe’s industry will become a key enabling factor for future growth of the microelectronics industry.
