SEMI Europe Member Advocacy

As the voice of the semiconductor equipment and materials industry, SEMI represents member interests throughout the year, working with policymakers and other groups and individuals who are shaping the business environment. Our collective voice, however, is made stronger by active member involvement, so we encourage you to join us in support of our Industry Advocacy endeavors.

Why advocacy?

Public policy and the “Brussels bubble” often seem far removed from the realities of running a company – raising the question of why should SEMI invest in member advocacy?  The semiconductor industry is a complex business with multiple challenges on many fronts, including public policy.
EU rules and regulations can be difficult to understand and implement and sometimes they place an additional burden that slows down our fast-moving industry. To help keep our industry competitive on a global scale, SEMI Europe is committed to public policy — maintaining a Brussels office, which advocates for the SEMI members early in the decision-making process, so that final decisions reflect a balanced approach that keeps the needs of our industry protected.

What do we do?

Our work is guided by our members’ needs. We offer a range of services, including:
  • Monitoring EU policy: updating members on what the EU is doing and how it may impact SEMI members
  • Liaising with EU decision-makers: setting up meetings with representatives from the Commission, the European Parliament, national and regional authorities in Brussels to advocate members’ needs and concerns
  • Raising awareness around the semiconductor industry: maintaining visibility among different stakeholders in Brussels to raise the profile of the semiconductor industry

SEMI Europe is currently engaged in the following EU policy areas:
  • Industrial policy
  • Research & Innovation
  • Competition & State Aid
  • Funding mechanisms and opportunities
  • Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)
We organise an annual SEMI Brussels Forum that brings together industry executives and European decision-makers to exchange views on the latest developments in Europe and forge a consensus on Europe’s policy priorities.

What can members do?

Our advocacy work is member-driven and our objective is to make the EU more user-friendly for our members.
