Speaker Biographies
Mike Allison, Managing Director, Edwards. Member of the SEMI European Advisory Board.
Mike Allison joined Edwards in March 2008 and currently holds the position of Managing Director for the Semiconductor, Solar and FPD Group. He is responsible for all customer activities in those sectors and has a 25 years industry experience. Previous to Edwards, Mike was a Vice President at KLATencor, where he held various positions spanning 19 years, including General Manager for their Services Business, General Manager for Europe, Technical Director, Sales Director. Educated in Scotland at the University of Glasgow, Mike graduated in 1985 with an Honors Degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
Enrico Villa, Vice President ESIA
Enrico Villa was born in Vimercate, near Milano (Italy) in 1941 and graduated in Electrical Engineering and in Business Administration at the Università Cattolica in Milano. Enrico Villa joined SGS Fairchild (a forerunner company of STMicroelectronics) in 1967, contributing his extensive competence in both technology and business issues to a range of assignments, from product and technology management to market research. In 1987 he assumed the position of VP for External Technological Co-ordination at SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics, and in May 1993 his responsibilities were extended to encompass the position of General Manager of the Italian legal entity. In January 1998, Enrico Villa became a member of the staff of STMicroelectronics as Corporate VP of Emerging Markets. He was appointed Corporate VP for the Europe Region Sales & Marketing organisation in January 2000. In the years 2003-2004, he also managed ICT activities and Corporate infrastructures. Enrico Villa became Executive Vice President of STM with effect as of January 1, 2005, following the creation of the Corporate Executive Committee, comprised of six corporate executives in addition to the COO and the CEO. From 1987 to 1994 he was Chairman of Electronic Components Group within the Italian Association of Electrical and Electronic Companies. Between 1993 and 1996 he was President of the European Electronic Component Manufacturers Association, and since 2003 has been re-elected to this position annually. He is currently Chairman of the European Semiconductor Council within EECA, as well as Chairman for Europe of the Joint Steering Committee for the World Semiconductor Council. In February 2008 Enrico Villa was named Chairman of the Board of MEDEA+ and CATRENE, the two largest electronics R&D research clusters for micro/nano-electronics in Europe.

Daniel Bunch, Deputy Head of Unit ICT for Competitiveness and Innovation, DG Enterprise and Industry
Danny Bunch has been Deputy Head of the “ICT for Competitiveness and Innovation” Unit within the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General of the European Commission since October 2007. In covering issues affecting the competitiveness of the ICT sector in Europe, his Unit is responsible for the recent Communications on ‘Key Enabling Technologies’ and ‘ICT Standardisation Policy’ as well as for promoting e-skills and supporting the transition towards e-business among small and medium-sized enterprises.
Past responsibilities in the Enterprise and Industry DG have covered the aerospace, defence, shipbuilding, rail and ropeway sectors, including a period representing the Commission on the Board of the European Railway Agency and another as Administrator of the industry/research Aeronautics Task Force. His previous positions in the Commission covered WTO and OECD trade negotiations on steel and shipbuilding and before that, the implementation and adaptation of European accountancy legislation.
A graduate in economics, he joined the European Commission from the UK Department of Trade and Industry where he worked on attracting inward investment to less developed regions of Britain.
Genevieve Fioraso, Deputée de l’Isere, Deputy mayor of Grenoble
Since 2008, First Vice-President in charge of economy for the Grenoble Metropole. Since 2003, Chairman of the SEM Minatec Entreprises and the President of the ESA, the business school of the Pierre Mendès France University of Grenoble. Graduated of Economics and of American literature, she started her career as english professor in Amiens in 1975, then integrated the Cabinet of Mayor of Grenoble in 1979. In 1987, she creates an organism of professional insertion, before assuming from 1989 to1995 the charge Deputy Director of a start-up of the CEA, Corys, specialized in the design of training simulators in the field of energy and transportation. Since 1995, she has been the Director of cabinet of Grenoble’s Mayor Michel Destot, and then assuming an elective charge as Deputy Mayor of Economic Development, Innovation and Trade, as well as being the First Vice-President in charge of Finance of the Grenoble Metropole. She was also director of the Regional Rhone-Alps Agency of Numerical Network, and Marketing Manager for France Telecom, dedicated to emerging markets in the sector social-health. In the National French Parliament, she is member of the Commission of economics and environment, also member of the evaluation office of scientific and technological choices.
Brian Whitney, Assistant Secretary General, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Irish Government
Brian Whitney is a career civil servant who has served in a number of Irish Government Ministries. His current responsibilities in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment include policy in relation to enterprise development, inward investment and State aid.

Jens Drews, Director Government Relations, GLOBALFOUNDRIES
Jens Drews currently serves as Director Government Relations for GLOBALFOUNDRIES. He joined GLOBALFOUNDRIES in February 2009 from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and is based at the company’s Fab 1 in Dresden, Germany. During his 12-year-tenure at AMD, he held several positions in communications and external relations. With AMD, his last function was Director Government Relations for Europe, Middle, East and Africa. Before joining AMD in January 1997, he worked as a journalist in Germany. Jens Drews studied political science and history in Germany and the United States, graduating with a Master's Degree in Political Science.
Luc Van den hove, CEO, IMEC
Luc Van den hove was till June 30, 2009 Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at IMEC (Leuven, Belgium). He became Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on July 1, 2009. He joined IMEC in 1984, starting his research career in the field of silicide and interconnect technologies. In 1988, he became manager of IMEC’s micro-patterning group (lithography, dry etching); in 1996, Department Director of Unit Process Step R&D; and in 1998, Vice-President of the Silicon Process and Device Technology Division. In January 2007, he was appointed as IMEC's EVP & COO. Luc Van den hove received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Leuven, Belgium. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications and conference contributions.
Anton Milner, CEO, Q-Cells
Anton Milner, one of the four co-founders of the Company, has been Chairman of the Executive Board of Q-Cells SE since 2000. The native-born Englishman, is in charge of developing and implementing corporate strategy, he is responsible for Strategic Business Development and Public Relations. Before co-founding Q-Cells, the engineering graduate and MBA was employed as a Senior Engagement Manager for the management consultants, McKinsey. Previously he worked for Royal Dutch Shell, where he was involved in oil and gas trading, risk management and business analyses.
Reinhard Ploss, Member of the Management Board and Executive Vice President, Infineon
Reinhard Ploss joined Siemens/Infineon in 1986 as a process engineer for ion implantation in wafer manufacture at Munich, focusing on process development, yield and quality improvement. After about 1 year he assumed responsibility for ion implantation process technology and later also for epitaxy.
In 1992 he moved to Villach, where he was initially responsible for the transfer of the epitaxy process and later for the coordination of the product transfer. In 1996 he went back to Munich and took charge of the Power Semiconductor Business Unit with a focus on development and manufacturing. Additionally, he was appointed as President of eupec GmbH Co. KG in 1999.
Since 2000 he headed the Automotive & Industrial Business Group, which then encompassed power semiconductors, electric drives, automotive applications and the Microcontroller Business Unit. In 2005 Reinhard Ploss assumed responsibility for manufacture, development and operational management in the Automotive, Industrial and Multimarket Business Group.
June 2007, Dr. Reinhard Ploss became a member of the management board and is now responsible for Operations comprising central manufacturing Frontend and Backend, Test, Quality Management as well as Logistics.
Loïc Liétar, Corporate VP Business Development, STMicroelectronics
Loïc Liétar is a Corporate Vice President of STMicroelectronics, responsible for the Company’s Technology Strategic Alliances, Mergers and Acquisitions and Strategic Planning, and has held this position since January 2008. Liétar joined Thomson Semiconducteurs, a predecessor company to STMicroelectronics, in 1985. After working in R&D Management and Marketing, he was appointed Director of the Company’s Advanced Systems Technology (AST) labs in the US in 1999. Four years later, Liétar became General Manager of ST’s Cellular Terminals Division, and later moved to head the Application Processor Division, which brought to market ST’s leading-edge Nomadik mobile multimedia processor. In 2006, he was appointed Group Vice President, Strategies, and contributed to establishing ST’s R&D partnership with IBM and two joint ventures - the Numonyx flash-memory joint venture with Intel and ST-Ericsson, combining the wireless operations of ST, NXP and Ericsson. Loïc Liétar was born in Paris, France, in 1962. He graduated with degrees in Engineering and Microelectronics from the École Polytechnique and Orsay University in Paris, respectively, and holds an MBA from Columbia University, New York.
Michel Brillouët, Deputy Director, CEA/LETI
Michel Brillouët joined CEA-LETI in 1999 where he managed a R&D division on silicon microsystems and from 2001 also on silicon microelectronics. He is presently strongly involved in the shaping of the European Research Area in nanoelectronics (ENIAC, etc.) and in bodies targeting international collaborations. He participates in international forums (ITRS…) and conferences (VLSI-TSA, INC…). Prior to joining CEA-LETI, Brillouët worked for 23 years in Centre National des Télécommunications (CNET; France Telecom R&D Center) where he held different positions in microelectronics research. In 1992, he was assigned to the Common R&D Center between STMicroelectronics and France Télécom in Crolles, France, where he was in charge of all the technology R&D programs for the Crolles site, including CMOS, eDRAM and BiCMOS process and process integration along with their interaction with the design community. Brillouët graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in Paris in 1974 and Telecom Paris in 1976.
Wolfgang Reinhardt, Director Regulatory Affairs, ACEA (European Automotive Manufacturers Association)
In his long career Wolfgang has spent 23 years in the automotive industry. He held various positions as e.g. General Director, Director Marketing, General Aftersales & Service Director, etc. Since 6 ½ years he is seconded by General Motors Europe to ACEA, where he deals with ITS, eSafety, Telematics and Road Safety.
Thierry Van der Pyl, Director, Components and Systems, European Commission, DG Digital Agenda
Thierry van der Pyl was Chief of High Performance Computing R&D in the European Commission. In 2004, he became the Head of the Unit Future and Emerging Technologies and in 2007 the Head of the newly created Photonics unit at DG Information Society. Since 1 October 2008 Thierry Van der Pyl is Head of Directorate Components and Systems, DG Information Society, now DG Digital Agenda.
Heinz Kundert, President, SEMI Europe
Heinz Kundert was named president of SEMI Europe in October 2005. His responsibility includes overall guidance of the SEMI activities and membership outreach all over Europe and the CIS countries and he belongs to the Global Executive Team of SEMI International. Kundert has been within the semiconductor industry for 23 years when he joined Balzers in Liechtenstein, a global supplier of thin film equipment. In total he lived more than five years in Asia before he became COO of the newly formed company Unaxis that was a merger between Balzers and Leybold. From 2002 Kundert was named CEO of Unaxis. Kundert has a degree in mechanical engineering and business administration with a federal diploma from the FAH/University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
