An Update for the New Year
There’s no question about it: 2009 was a tough year. While many companies were cutting back, I am pleased to report that 26 European companies chose to become SEMI members in 2009. In good times and bad, the benefits of SEMI membership are clear and we welcome these new members. Member companies are at the heart of SEMI and the SEMI PV Group— driving the organization.
SEMI PV Group is the global industry association for the PV manufacturing supply chain. The membership represents the entire system from equipment/material suppliers to R&D to cell and module manufacturers. In recognition of the extent of this ecosystem, I am pleased to inform you that an additional European representative has been appointed on the SEMI International Board of Directors.
Gerhard Rauter, COO and member of the Executive Board of Q-Cells is joining already appointed European representatives Eicke Weber, director of Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems and André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé, president and CEO of Soitec.
In the coming year, I encourage you to consider the following European industry events. Your presence is important to maintain a collective identity as we compete in global markets:
- ISS Europe (Industry Strategy Symposium), hosted by Intel, in Dublin, Ireland, 7-9 February, www.semi.org/isseurope
- PV Fab Managers Forum in Berlin, Germany, 7-9 March, www.pvgroup.org/pvfmf
- SEMICON Russia in Moscow, 14-16 June, www.semiconrussia.org
I wish you all the best in 2010.
