Spotlight on PV Taiwan 2014

Bettina Weiss We have seen a lot of movement in the PV industry lately, both upstream and downstream. In mid-June, SEMI reported that worldwide bookings of PV equipment in Q1 2014 grew 18% above Q4 2013 and 44% higher than Q1 2013. This bump brought the book-to-bill ratio above parity for the first time since Q1 2012, suggesting a thawing in what was a prolonged and hard industry "winter." Yet the latest (Sept) SEMI Worldwide PV Equipment Market Statistics Report reveals that worldwide bookings for the first quarter declined to $234 million, 21% below Q1 2014 but 25% higher than Q2 2013. At 0.73, the book-to-bill ratio is once again below parity.

However, there is some good news -- including still high PV installation growth particularly in Asia and some creative approaches to circumvent the ongoing trade disputes... (more)
