Talent Outreach Initiatives Core to SEMI Southeast Asia Events

By Kai Fai Ng, president, SEMI Southeast Asia

Reeling from the success of Advanced Semiconductor Technology Conference in July in Singapore, we are excited about the pace of registration and sponsorships coming in for the first-ever SEMI Vietnam Hanoi Business Mission from 21st to 23rd September.

With the strong commitment and participation of the key central government agencies, delegates for this event will learn both about the broader picture and the specifics about the planned evolution of the semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam. Ministries, such as the Ministry of Information and Communication (which spearhead the planning of the electronics and semiconductor industry through the Ministry of Science and Technology) that heads the policy making in high-tech park development in Vietnam, and government officials from the central government will be key players at the event. SEMI Southeast Asia will continue to enhance our members and partners’ value by bringing our communities across the region to explore new business opportunities and collaborations.

In addition, on 22nd September, we will also be hosting a session focusing on the SEMI High-Tech U program and presenting an open and unique opportunity for open panel discussion of semiconductor workforce development with participation from local and foreign universities.

In support of SEMI Southeast Asia cross-regional collaborations in all our initiatives, we will also support a talent drive event by Contact Singapore in Penang on the 5th September. Together with Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Co. and Micron Semiconductor Asia, Contact Singapore will be hosting a one-day event called Careers@Singapore: Electronics at Hotel Jen, Penang, Malaysia. For more information of the career fair, please visit the website www.contactsingapoer.sg/careerssg/elect/my/sep2-15/reg.

Apart from events in Vietnam, continuing on the talent pipeline development journey, SEMI Southeast Asia will once again hold a workshop/seminar of Fundamental and Advance IC Packaging in Penang, Malaysia from 24th- 25th November 2015. This two-day course will be targeting the engineering communities to gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities of current packaging technologies and future trends in advanced packaging.

Lastly, to thank our SEMI Regional Members, Regional Advisory Board, Technical Committees, Partners and Agencies, SEMI Southeast Asia is planning to cap off 2015 with a Members Networking Cocktail Night in December.
