Thomas Caulfield, Ph.D. DES has been Senior Vice President and General Manager (Fab 8) at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Inc. since May 14, 2014. Dr. Caulfield served as the Chief Operating Officer of Soraa, Inc. since May 3, 2012 and served as its President. Dr. Caulfield joined GLOBALFOUNDRIES with an impressive track record of results through his extensive career spanning engineering, management, operational leadership and global executive experience with leading technology companies. Dr. Caulfield served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of AREVA Solar, Inc. (formerly Ausra, Inc.) since September 2009. Dr. Caulfield served as an Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Satisfaction at Novellus Systems Inc. from November 2005 to September 2009 and was responsible for all aspects of worldwide field enterprise operations. He joined Novellus Systems Inc. in October 2005. At Novellus, Dr. Caulfield was responsible for all aspects of worldwide field enterprise operations. He was selected after an extensive, nationwide search of senior executives with strong technical and OEM backgrounds. Dr. Caulfield is an accomplished industry leader with more than 20 years of technical and global executive experience. He has more than 15 years of executive leadership experience in semiconductor technology and equipment - spanning production, manufacturing process, equipment engineering, and technology and product development. He also held a senior position at Phillips Laboratory. Dr. Caulfield served for 17 years at International Business Machines Corporation, where he held a number of positions, including Vice President of 300mm Semiconductor Operations and was responsible for financial management and operation of IBM's premiere semiconductor facility in East Fishkill, New York. Prior to joining IBM, he served at Philips Laboratory as a senior member of the research staff. He serves as Director at DFMSim Inc. He served as a Director of PDF Solutions Inc. from September 2006 to May 14, 2014. Dr. Caulfield received Bachelor of Science degrees in materials science/metallurgy from Columbia University and in physics from St. Lawrence University. He also holds M.S. and a Ph.D (Doctorate of Engineering) in materials science, metallurgy from Columbia University.
