From Paper to e-Paper: How E Ink Display Technology is Changing the World
Since its beginnings in 1997, E Ink has grown from a cash-starved startup company to the leader in e-Paper displays, shipping many millions per year. Today, over 20% of every adult over 21 years old in the US owns an electronic reader, and almost all of these utilize a paper-like E Ink display. Implications of this shift in reading will be discussed including access to books and impact on our environment. Differences of this microencapsulated electrophoretic display technology (EPD) and that of the traditional LCD displays will be described along with exciting new applications where the technology is being used (and will soon be used) beyond electronic books. There will be the opportunity to talk individually with E Ink technologists who will show demonstrators of E Ink display components and use in various applications.
