Assembly & Test in Southeast Asia; Upcoming Forum Tackles the Issues

By Kai Fai Ng, SEMI Southeast Asia

The Southeast Asia region, especially the countries of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, continues to play a vital role in the assembly and test of semiconductor devices.  This region has major activity in the area of assembly and test equipment and is considered the largest market region for packaging materials.

The semiconductor industry will continue to expand in leading edge capacity in 2014, adding capacity in the backend for wafer bumping and flip chip packaging. For Southeast Asia, about one billion dollars will be spent on assembly and test equipment this year, and the same or even higher spending is forecasted for 2014 given the strong presence of assembly in test plants in the region.

More than 70 global and domestic packaging and test companies call Malaysia home, and Malaysia continues to attract new investment to fuel future growth.

With so many packaging and test events worldwide, choosing the right conference to attend is critical.  The first SEMI Malaysia Forum, themed "Technology Innovation in Assembly & Test," begins on 20 November at the Eastin Hotel in Penang.  We invite you to attend this unique event and network with your peers in semiconductor packaging and test from across Southeast Asia and around the world.

Speakers from leading technology companies and industry analysts will provide their unique insights to the key business and technology developments driving microelectronics manufacturing in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, focusing on challenges and opportunities in packaging and test in the coming age of 3D-IC, and new transistor architectures.

SEMI Malaysia Forum Agenda includes speakers from Advantest, ASE, ASM Technology, Equvo Pte, FormFactor, GfK, ITE, Kester Components, Kulicke & Soffa, LTX-Credence, SEMI, SEMIgear,SPT Asia, and Tokyo Electron.

The event is supported by APT, MICCI, MIDA, PICO, and PENFEIA.
