Surface Mount Sandwich Component Dimensions Task Force

Surface Mount Sandwich Component Dimensions Task Force

By Kevin Nguyen, SEMI

The Surface Mount Sandwich Component Dimensions Task Force kicked off its first meeting at SEMICON West 2013. Over 15 people from various companies including CH2M Hill, UCT, Applied Materials, Parker Hannifin, Pall, Precision Sensors, Swagelok, Mott Corporation and Ham-Let attended the meeting.

The primary goal of the task force is to support sandwich components (components located between substrate and another component).  Components will encompass filters, check valves, restrictors, and port converters.  Currently, these components do not have dimensional standards in place and vary by each manufacturer, resulting in interchangeability issues between manufacturers of functionally equivalent components.

The task force has initiated a draft document 5595, New Standard: Guide for the Development of Dimensional Standards for “Sandwich” Surface Mount Components.  This guide will start with thickness dimension for surface mount sandwich components.

The next face to face meeting will be held on October 28, 2013 in conjunction with NA Fall Standards Meetings at SEMI HQ, San Jose, CA.  As the Task Force is looking for key members to join the group, this is an opportunity for those who can influence on the standard to help determine the content. If you are interested in participating in the task force, the Facilities and Gases committees or would like more information, please contact Kevin Nguyen from SEMI or the task force leader.
