Join Europe’s Manufacturing Momentum at SEMICON Europa 2013
Latest technologies and market trends at SEMICON Europa and Plastic Electronics 2013
by Heinz Kundert, president, SEMI Europe
Definitely the latest big news from Europe: momentum for semiconductor manufacturing is building! With the EU 10/100/20 strategy, both the European Union and national governments have made a strong commitment to reinforce manufacturing in Europe: a €10 billion public/private funding program for manufacturing and research, to be complemented by a €100 billion investment commitment from the industry. Europe’s aim: 20 percent of the global chip production market by 2020.
This new strategy is the backdrop for SEMICON Europa 2013 (Dresden, 8-10 October 2013). Our 40-odd programs and events, are an opportunity to find out about the latest technology and market trends, meet customers and suppliers and join Europe’s growing momentum.
The Advanced Packaging Conference will feature keynote presentations from the world’s #1 Fabless and OSAT: Ho-Ming Tong, GM and chief R&D officer of ASE Group, and Steve Bezuk, senior director of Qualcomm. Issues to be addressed include: Power Handling, Size, Interconnection Interfaces, Thermal Management, Heat Dissipation, Wafer-Level Packaging and 3D Packaging.
The 15thEuropean Manufacturing Test Conference will focus on real solutions in the production of test of semiconductor devices and will also discuss MEMS and SiP testing. Keynote speakers Malcolm Penn, CEO of Future Horizons, and Risto Puhakka, president of VLSI Research, will present their views on how to improve the added value and efficiency of test.
Our two-day special 450mm program will showcase European and worldwide achievements in 450 mm, with leaders from the Global 450 Consortium (G450C), the European Equipment and Materials Initiative (EEMI450) and the Israeli Metrology Consortium (Metro450) presenting their progress. Dedicated sessions will address EU public funding in 450mm, the role of research institutes and latest technology breakthroughs.
During the International MEMS/MST Industry Forum leaders from all sectors of the MEMS value chain will discuss the critical issues enabling and challenging industry growth prospects for the coming 3-5 year period. Keynotes include STMicroelectronics, Infineon, InvenSense, ATREG, and SPTS. The MEMUNITY MEMS Testing and Metrology Workshop will discuss current needs, challenges, and trends in MEMS development, testing, and metrology with high level experts. It will present recent advancements in measurement technology for characterizing mechanical and electrical properties of next generation MEMS devices and discuss about wafer level test strategies and also about standardization issues.
The 17th Fab Managers Forum will focus on new increased flexibility and energy concepts to reinforce the competitiveness of European fabs. Featured keynotes include Kevin T. Crofton, executive VP and COO of SPTS Technologies and Thomas Reisinger, VP Production at Infineon Technologies Villach.
The Plastic Electronics 2013 Exhibition and Conference (PE2013), co-located with SEMICON Europa, focuses on industrial manufacturing and real-world applications, with conferences dedicated to OLEDS for Display and Lighting, Flexible Photovoltaics, Integrated Smart Systems and MicroDisplays.
For a strategic discussion with top-level industry executives on how to build on Europe’s momentum, join the 7th Executive Summit. With a €4,8 billion joint EU/national funding program and a €1,1 billion public investment in France already in the pipeline, now is the time for the industry to set its priorities and start working together across the value chain.
And if you’re tired of hearing about all the public funding available in Europe but do not know how your company can benefit, join the EU Funding Opportunities Workshop – a quick guide to how EU funding works and how your company can get involved.
Not only is the SEMICON Europa content addressing the business opportunities of the new EU10/100/20 strategy, so is our concept. In 2014 SEMICON Europa will take place in Grenoble, and will rotate with Dresden in future years. This new concept will allow us to tap into the strengths and uniqueness specificities offered by each of these two leading European clusters and will reinforce the business opportunities offered to our exhibitors and visitors.
I look forward to seeing you in Dresden for another exciting show!
