Michael Raiford, Senior Director, Manufacturing and Systems Division, Samsung Austin Semiconductor
Michael Raiford is Senior Director of the Manufacturing and Systems Division at Samsung Austin Semiconductor. This role includes leading the Manufacturing organization as well as the Information Technology Department, where he is the principal process architect for achieving full factory automation. Additionally, Michael is the executive sponsor for Samsung’s Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Michael serves on the Cost Champion Team, the Great Work Place Committee, the Security Council as well as the Factory Steering Committee which creates yearly and quarterly strategies as well as oversees factory operations and policies. Michael enjoys being an instructor for leadership classes and holding open employee development forums.
Joining Samsung Austin Semiconductor in 1996, Michael led the team that designed and implemented the IT infrastructure in both the original FAB built in 1997 and the new 300mm FAB built in 2007. During his career with SAS, he has held a variety of roles sustaining cost, strategy and production control as well as implementing 6 Sigma methodologies at SAS winning the Subsidiary of the Year Award in 2002.
In the Austin community, Michael serves on the Texas State CIS Advisory Board, the InnoTech Advisory Council and is the Chairman of the St. Edwards Natural Science Advisory Board.
Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in CIS from Southwest Texas State University and a MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor is a 1800 employee, $5.5 billion computer memory chip fabrication plant in northeast Austin. With a clean room in access of 500,000 square feet, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is one of the newest and most advanced 300mm fabs in the world. Using state-of-the-art equipment, the manufacturing plant produces NAND flash memory chips.
Samsung Austin Semiconductor is a Korean-based subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation. The Austin facility is the only semiconductor plant the company has outside South Korea.
