SEMI Readies New Standards Ballot/Voting and Membership Systems for Early 2013 Launch
SEMI is set to launch its new Standards ballot/voting and membership management systems in early 2013 in time for the Cycle 1 voting period. The development of these new systems aims to provide SEMI Standards Program members more functionality and increased capability while accessing and utilizing these SEMI Standards services.
The key changes are:
- One-time log-in per session to vote on ballots
- Same log-in for SEMI Members
- Retrieve and edit submitted votes for current cycle
- Text field and attachment option for each ballot or line item
- Linked to new membership application / profile management
- Access to other SEMI products & services
Key Changes in Detail
The new Standards ballot/voting and membership management pages will have a new “look and feel” that will be more consistent with the SEMI brand and style found on other pages on the SEMI website. Nevertheless, basic functionalities that users have come to expect (e.g., drop down menu to browse Standards ballots, general voting sheet functionality) will remain.
One-time log-in per session to vote on ballots — The current ballot voting system requires Program Members to log-in each time a committee’s voting sheet is accessed. The new system will only require Program Members to log-in once and will then be able to select from a list of available committee ballots from a central page. The system will automatically log-off if a session remains idle for an extended period of time.
Same log-in for SEMI Members — A common cause of confusion (and frustration) among SEMI Members and SEMI Standards Program Members alike is the need to manage at least two sets of log-in order to access various SEMI products and services. With the new system, SEMI Members will be able to use that log-in to vote on Standards Ballots. Existing SEMI Standards Program Members who are not SEMI Members will be able to use their existing membership information to access the ballot voting sheets.
Retrieve and edit submitted votes for the current cycle — Program Members will soon be able to access votes that have been previously submitted in an open voting cycle if they wish to review their votes and edit them as needed. No need to contact SEMI staff.
Text field and attachment option for each ballot or line item — Rich text boxes and attachment fields for comments or negative(s) for reject votes will be available for each ballot or line item. This allows for better tracking of voter responses for each ballot or line item.
Linked to new membership application / profile management — The new ballot/voting system will also be better integrated with the similarly new Standards membership management system. Once logged in, users can vote on available ballots as well as manage their Standards membership at the same time such as adding or removing registered committees or updating contact information. There will also be a new Standards membership application form online for new members. Additional information (i.e., charters) about the existing 23 technical committees will be easily accessible via pop windows to help new and existing Program Members select technical committees they wish to register for.
Access to other SEMI products & services — In addition to better integration between the Standards ballot/voting and membership management systems, access to other SEMI products and services will just be a few clicks away.
SEMI Standards Program Membership
Participation in SEMI Standards is open to all interested parties and there are no fees to become a SEMI Standards Member. Please note, however, the SEMI Standards Membership is separate from SEMI Membership.
There are two types of SEMI Standards Membership. Both membership types allow you to attend/participate in Standards meetings as well as to vote on ballots. However, by registering as a Technical Committee member for any of the 23 technical committees, you will receive announcements/notifications specific to the group(s) you registered for. Also, as a technical committee member, you are eligible to serve in leadership positions. Keep in mind, however, that as a Technical Committee member, you are required to vote on ballots for the committees you registered for. Failure to do so for 3 consecutive cycles (we have 7 per year), your membership status will be changed to general Program member and you will no longer receive these announcements/notifications.
