Geopolitical Outlook 2013: Crises of Leadership and Balances of Power
University of Austin at Texas
This presentation will predict the trends most likely to dominate global politics in 2013. While world leaders speak about the process of stabilizing recovery and rebalancing the global economy, the truth is that geopolitical challenges keep getting in the way. I will focus on structural challenges that Western leaders face in restoring growth and shifting balances of power in the developing world that threaten its economic vibrancy. In particular, I will discuss the new Chinese leadership and its domestic and regional implications, the collapse of the so-called Arab Spring and rising turmoil in the Middle East, the European debt crisis, and the role of American leadership.
