Dr. John Smythe, Advanced Technology Lead DMTS, Micron
John is currently responsible for the Materials Technology Group that works on next generation materials and processes related to emerging technology. He holds a BS in ceramic engineering and Ph.D. in materials science & engineering, both from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. John joined Micron in 2002 and has held various process technology positions. Prior to joining Micron, John spent 22 years working in various aspects of semiconductor process technology for companies such as IBM and National Semiconductor. He is active in University Research projects at the NSF-NRI Liaison level as well as being an Advising PI on materials research projects. He has given invited talks at conferences and University Seminars over the years. His current research interests are: Electronic, atomic and chemical structure of surfaces and interfaces of materials; Thin film processing including ALD, PLD, PVD, CVD, spin-on; Free surface fluid behavior modeling; state control in ternary metal and metal-oxide systems.
Dr. Smythe is an author of over 40 US Patents and several publications in the field of materials and semiconductor processing methods. He is a member of the Materials Research Society and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Micron.
