Just Around the Corner

From the President of SEMI Americas

Just Around the Corner

The early signs of spring are already here in California, and for us at SEMI that means SEMICON West is not far behind. Before too long, engineers, executives, and buying teams will be gathering at the Moscone Center in San Francisco for our annual showcase of the latest technologies and trends in microelectronics design and manufacturing.

Based on the numbers and the growing agenda, SEMICON West 2012 is already on target to exceed last year's successes. With more than 1,300 booths and over 600 international exhibitors already assigned, the show will be larger than last year's event and is on pace to sell out soon.  To date, nearly 10,000 combined visitors have registered for SEMICON West and Intersolar North America, a number also well ahead of our numbers from a year ago.

The buzz this year is clearly centered on technologies that will push Moore's Law beyond the 22nm node and to its limits, with a strong interest in 450mm, EUV, and new device architectures including vertical transistors and 3D-IC. Technical programs at SEMICON West will again be showcased at the three TechXPOT presentation stages on the show floor, including the "Extreme Electronics" stage, which will feature full-day sessions on MEMS and high-brightness LEDs, and a half-day session on plastic electronics. Traditional "front-end" technologies will be served by sessions on new materials and processes for sub-22nm manufacturing, emerging and evolving lithography solutions, and the 450mm Supply Chain Forum.

Test and packaging are both well-represented by a mix of TechXPOT sessions and co-located events. The TechXPOT located in North Hall — home to test, packaging, and assembly exhibits — will feature sessions on new trends in test (including emerging adaptive test technologies), a session of highlighted papers from the International Test Conference (ITC), and packaging sessions focused on contemporary packaging, 2.5D and 3D-IC, and packaging for MEMS and sensors. Test will also be in the spotlight at the IEEE/SEMI Test Vision Conference, located at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis.

Remember that March 15 is the deadline for Presentation Submissions: Session papers and presentations are quickly filling up the SEMICON West technical agenda, but submissions for papers are still being accepted. Presenting at SEMICON West is a phenomenal opportunity. Please visit www.semiconwest.org/Participate/SPCFP for more information.

Visitor registration is now open and the April 12 free registration deadline is soon.   Now is the time to add your name to the growing list of people planning to be a part of SEMICON West 2012. You can register online now at www.semiconwest.org/Participate/RegisterNow.

There's a lot more in store for SEMICON West 2012, including our annual VIP reception and the return of the SEMICON West Happy Hour networking event. We'll also be launching our very first SEMICON West mobile app for iPhones, iPads, and Android devices later this spring. We'll keep you informed of all the latest news and events as they develop, so stay tuned!
