From the President of SEMI Americas:
Pipeline of Innovation—Coming Up in July
Innovation is the hallmark of the microelectronics industry and it is always the focus of SEMICON West. This is especially true in 2011. New designs, processes, and materials development, including vertical transistors (FinFETs) and 3D-IC, as well as advances in III-Vs, substrates, EUV, and test, are driving Moore's Law beyond traditional device scaling technologies and opening new opportunities and new markets across the microelectronics supply chain. All of these technologies and more will be spotlighted as SEMICON West literally becomes a “pipeline of innovation” in San Francisco next month.
SEMICON West is the place where the global microelectronics industry comes together to explore the ideas, challenges, and solutions that move concepts from the drawing board to the circuit board. This year, we have continued to develop programs and attract exhibiting companies that represent the absolute latest in design and manufacturing technology, expanding our focus on key segments and new markets to bring more of the industry and more new audiences together. Highlights at this year's show include:
- Expanded networking. Visitors and exhibitors alike have told us they wanted more opportunities to meet and interact with suppliers, partners, and peers on and off the show floor. This year, we will kick-off SEMICON West week with the return of the VIP Reception (Monday, July 11, 6:00-7:30pm at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis), which offers industry executives the chance to meet key customers and decision-makers. And we will bring the party to the show floor—literally—with the first-ever SEMICON West Happy Hour, Tuesday, July 12, from 3:30-5:00pm, with no-host bars located across North and South Halls and at sponsoring exhibitor booths.
- Advanced Technology Manufacturing TechZONE. With the increased complexity and integration of microelectronics, it has become increasingly important for design, process, equipment, and materials engineers to communicate and collaborate across the supply chain to solve design and manufacturing challenges. The Advanced Technology Manufacturing TechZONE brings a number of new faces and companies to SEMICON West, including Mentor Graphics, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, IBM, Samsung, Amcor, and ASE, to reach new audiences from the design and fabless community.
- Technology Sessions at the TechXPOTs. Visitors have come to recognize the TechXPOTs as the places to see and learn about new technology and process development on topics from materials to final test. This year's TechXPOT agendas spotlight developments in device architecture for logic and memory, 3D IC, semiconductor test, high-brightness LEDs, MEMS, flexible electronics, power semiconductors, design, and productivity. All TechXPOT content on the show floor is free and open to all attendees. Check posted schedules on the web and on-site for details.
- Keynotes and Executive Sessions. This year's keynote line-up includes Tien Wu, ASE; Rama K. Shukla, Intel; and Luc Van den hove, IMEC. The SEMICON West Executive Summit returns on Wednesday, July 13, with a panel discussion including Doug Neugold, ATMI; Stephen Newberry, Lam Research; and Richard Wallace, KLA-Tencor. The annual Bulls and Bears investor conference closes out the week on Thursday, July 14, with a panel of industry and financial analysts including Timothy Arcuri, Citigroup; Satya Kumar, Credit Suisse; and Krish Sankar, Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Of course there is much more to see and experience at SEMICON West. I encourage you to make the most of your week at the show. Be sure to visit the SEMICON West website (www.semiconwest.org) for complete event information and schedules.
I look forward to seeing you at SEMICON West!
