The August 2017 editions of the World Fab Forecast, World Fab Watch, Opto/LED Fab Watch, and the Opto/LED Fab Forecast databases have been published and are available now. The following highlights are from our World Fab Forecast database:
Key Points:
Fab Equipment Spending
- Equipment spending (new and used) for 2017 is expected to increase by 37% for a record high of US$56 Billion, up from the 23% (US$49 Billion) forecast issued in May 2017
- Equipment spending (new and used) for 2018 is expected to increase by 5%, thus reaching another record high of US$59 Billion (5%), up from the US$54 (9%) Billion forecast in May 2017, although at a lower growth rate
Installed Capacity
- 3D NAND will have the most capacity added in both 2017 and 2018 with 130% growth in 2017 and 44% growth in 2018
- Foundry capacity will increase 8% in 2017 and 5% in 2018
New Facilities / Construction Spending
- In 2017 there are 62 construction projects with investments totaling just under US$10 Billion (25% YoY)
- Most construction spending in 2017 will be for Memory (just under US$6 Billion), primarily for 3D NAND followed by DRAM. Second in construction spending is Foundry (US$3 Billion)
Activity Report
- We have made 456 changes on 353 listings, which includes 23 new and existing records (new and existing) and closing 3 records since the May 2017 World Fab Forecast report
- The August report has 1,230 records including about 300 Opto & LED related facilities
- We are tracking 88 future facilities/lines with various probabilities which will start volume production in 2017 or later
