Next Generation Gas Sensors: Opportunities and Challenges in Wearables and Smart Devices
While there are a number of sensors used in wearables and smart devices, chemical sensing is not yet a common feature. Low-cost, chip scale gas sensors are being developed for these applications, requiring advances in sensor design and performance. Gas sensors detect chemicals in the vapor phase, from sources such as Volatile Organic Compounds, exhaust (NOx), natural gas (Methane/CH4), and human presence (CO2), to name a few. There are many opportunities for such sensors, including environmental monitoring, breath analysis, industrial IoT, and chemical defense.
