Stretching Testing Method for Flexible Hybrid Electronics

Stretching tests have been conducted for more than 30 years at various laboratories. Stretching testers have been produced in various structures because stretching tests will be conducted for not only destructive testing but also fatigue testing of metallic materials or rubber materials or other materials. FHE is a new material for stretching tests. You should find a good stretching tester for your materials. We have found differences between traditional stretching testing conditions and testing conditions for FHE. For example, in the traditional stretching testing method, the stretching tester stretches dumbbell-shaped samples or ring-shaped samples. But, with FHE, the stretching tester stretches not only each material in the sample but also various shaped samples, like a real circuit. You should stretch samples with different structures to find the best structure, or combination, because FHE consist of various materials which each have different characteristics, and they affect the FHE characteristics in a complicated manner. If the sample is not a dumbbell-shape, the clamping method is one of the important points. And, stretching speed and stretching length should be decided according to the usage of end devices. Then, the sample should be subjected to different environmental conditions while stretching. We are studying what is required for a stretching-tester for FHE and what kind of technical problems are present. We have to accelerate the discussion and the development for the next generation FHE.
