China FPD Conference and ASID — Concurrent in Shanghai for the First Time in 2013

China FPD Market Must Expand to Meet Growing Demand

SHANGHAI, China — December 10, 2012 — SEMI today announced that the 2013 China FPD Conference and ASID will be held concurrently in Shanghai for the first time.  SEMI, in conjunction with the Society of Information Display (SID), will hold the 2013 China FPD Conference in Pudong, Shanghai, on March 20-21, as part of FPD China 2013. New this year, the 12th Asian Symposium on Information Display (ASID) will be held at the same time — providing an even larger platform for discussion and debate among researchers, engineering technicians and manufacturers in the domestic and international FPD fields.

According to NPD DisplaySearch spending on manufacturing equipment for flat panel displays is forecast to rise 121 percent from $3.8 billion in 2012 to $8.3 billion in 2013. Much of this increase in capital spending will occur in China. In 2013, Digitimes Research estimates that large-size panel production capacity will increase by 28.7 percent in China while declining or remaining essentially flat in other regions. DisplaySearch forecasts that the majority of FPD equipment spending in 2013 will be used for new low temperature polysilicon (LTPS) fabs and fab processes for use in both TFT LCD and AMOLED (active matrix OLED) displays.  FPD China will bring together the leading buyers, specifiers, engineers, suppliers and other key players to discuss and plan the next stage of China’s display industry growth.

The emergence as China of the leading consumer and manufacturer of display products in combination with the dynamic changes in the flat panel display industry — including new LCD, AMOLED, touch and flexible technologies — will be featured at FPD China.  To be held on March 19-21 at the Shanghai New Technology Expo Center in conjunction with SEMICON China and SOLARCON China, this year’s annual FPD China features the 10th anniversary of the exhibition in China. The event will include three theme pavilions focusing on the latest industry trends — OLED, Touch Screen and Next Display Technologies.

The largest display technology exposition in China, FPD China attracts all sectors of the FPD value chain and over 200 international exhibitors, 500 booths and 60,000 professional visitors. Newly granted U.S. Department of Commerce Trade Fair Certification (TFC) status, the show has also won international recognition. Attendees will include representatives from more than 40 central and local governments interested in creating opportunities for communication between governments and enterprises. Leading international display manufacturers are participating in the event, including BOE, Tianma, Visionox, CSOT, and IVO.

About SEMI China

Since 1988, SEMI China has been committed to promoting the development of semiconductor, flat panel display, photovoltaic and LED industries in China, strengthening cooperation between the global industry and the Chinese domestic industry and also between enterprises and governments. The SEMI China statistics and industry analysis reports cover equipment and material manufacturers, fabs, assembly and test facilities, panel factories and the photovoltaic industry in China, helping enterprises and governments carry out industry planning. Every year, SEMI China holds a joint exhibition of three major flagship exhibitions — SEMICON China, SOLARCON China, and FPD China — in addition to hosting the China Semiconductor Technology International Conference (CSTIC), China Photovoltaic Technology International Conference (CPTIC) and China FPD Conference (CFC). In addition to providing an integrated information platform (www.semi.org.cn), SEMI China publishes Semiconductor Manufacturing and PV Manufacturing, two influential magazines targeted at industry technologists and R&D teams.
