Doug Neugold Named SEMI Chairman; Miller and Tong Elected to SEMI International Board
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -– July 11, 2011-– SEMI today announced the results of its annual elections, and the appointment of Douglas A. Neugold, chairman, CEO and president, ATMI, Inc., to the position of chairman of the industry association's International Board of Directors.
David B. Miller, president, DuPont Electronics & Communications, and Ho-Ming Tong, chief R&D officer and general manager, ASE Group, were newly elected to the association board. The chairman and elected board members’ tenure becomes effective at the annual SEMI membership meeting, to be held Wednesday, July 13, during the SEMICON West 2011 and Intersolar North America expositions in San Francisco, California.
Neugold succeeds Rick Wallace, president and CEO of KLA-Tencor Corporation, who served as SEMI chairman for the past year. In addition, the association’s executive committee appointed André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé, president, CEO and chairman of the Board, Soitec, to the position of vice-chairman of the board.

In accordance with the association's by-laws, the following board members were re-elected: André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé, president, CEO and chairman of the Board, Soitec; Susumu Kohyama, director and advisor, Covalent Materials Corporation; Zhengrong Shi, chairman and chief executive officer, Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd.; Mike Splinter, chairman, president and CEO, Applied Materials, Inc.; Kiyoshi Togawa, senior vice president and executive officer, general manager, Corporate Business Strategy, Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd.; Way Tu, CEO and president, Allegro Holding and Kazuo Ushida, managing director, senior executive officer, president of Precision Equipment Company, Nikon Corporation.
Douglas A. Neugold, chairman, CEO and president, ATMI, Inc., and Mary G. Puma, chairman and CEO, Axcelis Technologies, Inc., were elected to respective first terms as ex-officio members of the SEMI board. Robert P. Akins, chairman and CEO, Cymer, Inc.; J.C. Kim, representative director and chairman, Edwards Korea Limited; and Kosei Nomiya, chairman, Ultratech Japan K.K., were elected to respective second terms as Ex-Officio members of the SEMI board.
SEMI’s 17 voting directors, four non-voting ex-officio members, and ten emeritus directors, represent companies from Europe, China, Japan, Korea, North America, and Taiwan, reflecting the global scope of the association’s activities. The SEMI charter stipulates that individuals may be elected by the general membership as voting members of the board for a total of four (4) two-year terms, and non-voting ex-officio members for a total of three (3) one-year terms.
