Converging Technology Revolutions Take Center Stage at SEMICON West 2011
New Transistor Designs, 3D-IC, and 450 mm Wafers— and the Growing Importance of LED, MEMS, Power IC and other Technologies— Transform Premier Industry Event
SAN JOSE, Calif. — March 8, 2011 — Disruptive advances in semiconductor manufacturing technology— including new device architectures, 3D integration, and hyper-growth “more than Moore” markets— will be the focus of over 100 hours of business and technical information at SEMICON West 2011, to be held July 12-14 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. SEMICON West, the industry’s flagship event for microelectronics manufacturing, will host more than 500 international exhibiting companies and over 20,000 expected visitors interested in solutions and options for the greatest micro-and nano manufacturing challenges in the coming decade. Detailed content and expert perspective will address semiconductor, LED, MEMS, power IC, printed electronics, and other enabling technologies powering our digital world.
The industry is experiencing a convergence of forces as Moore’s Law confronts new developments in semiconductor architecture, 3D packaging, and emerging technologies. These converging forces further push the interdependencies of all sectors of the value chain— from design to production and test to system developers and OEMS. The limits of traditional device scaling are addressed by research and development in a host of technologies and solutions, from vertical transistors (FinFETs), to extremely thin SOI substrates (FD-ETSOI), to III-V materials, as well as 3D-IC and EUV lithography. In addition, MEMS, LEDs, and power ICs are all becoming the double-digit growth markets that offer new technical challenges and business opportunities for the industry.

The SEMICON West exhibition will feature four on-floor stages where presentations on the solutions and challenges in micro- and nano-manufacturing will be conducted throughout the three-day event. Attendance at these “TechXPOTs” is free for those who advance register by April 25. Extreme Electronics, the "show-within-the-show" at SEMICON West, will focus on new and adjacent technologies— with technical sessions, presentations, and exhibits focused on MEMS, high-brightness LEDs, flexible electronics, power ICs, and other new and disruptive technology markets.
Confirmed keynote presentations will provided by Tien Wu, Chief Operating Officer, Board of Directors, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering, Inc. (ASE) and Luc Van den hove, president and CEO, IMEC.
