SEMI Standards Meetings at PV Fab Managers Forum

Kevin Nguyen, SEMI Standards

Looking to build on the momentum created in 2010, several SEMI PV Standards Task Forces and Committees will be meeting during the 5th PV Fab Managers Forum, to be held in March 2011 in Berlin, Germany. For meeting agendas and schedule, click here.

Task Forces (TF) that will meet include:

  • PV Equipment Interface Specification (EIS) TF
  • PV Transport Carrier TF
  • PV Connector Ribbon TF
  • PV Wafer Traceability TF
  • PV Silicon Materials TF
  • PV Analytical Test Methods TF

The European PV EIS TF and the Japanese PV EIS TF will resume discussion on the single substrate tracking standard under development. This effort entails tracking materials from a horizontal perspective in both thin film and crystalline Silicon PV.

The PV Transport Carrier TF, led by Q-Cells, has made significant progress on wafer carrier for 156x156 mm size. Clearance of slot, slot size, wafer pitch, position of automation interface, and other parameters will be discussed. Over 25 individuals representing PV wafer carrier users and suppliers attended the previous meeting at Solarwatt in Dresden in October 18, 2010.

Ballot 4805B, Specification For Virgin Silicon Feedstock Materials For PV Applications, developed by the PV Silicon Materials TF, will be formally adjudicated at the PV Committee meeting. This document has been revised based on industry feedback in previous ballot cycles, and will be reballoted in Cycle 1 of 2011. To date, this document has been discussed in multiple meetings with input from Japan, USA, and Europe PV committees.

The PV Connector Ribbon TF will review ballot 4801, New Standard: Test Methods for PV Connector Ribbon. The TF will also continue to pursue the second task of writing a specification for connector ribbon.

All these task forces will report their meeting outcomes to appropriate PV Committee and PV Automation Committee. All technical decisions will be made at these committee meetings. Meeting agendas will be posted to the Web as they become available.
