NIST Product Authentication Information Management Workshop

February 17-18, 2009
National Institute of Standards and Technology
Building 101/Lecture Rooms A and B
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA

Co-Sponsored By: NIST and SEMI

Distinguishing the genuine article from counterfeit is increasingly challenging, and accurate product authentication will require efficient access to information. Central to this objective is the management of the information needed for product authentication. It is imperative to have integrated information flow throughout the product life cycle, from conception to disposal, such that relevant data would be securely yet readily available to the necessary parties from manufacturers to end-users to customs and other law enforcement officers. In order for information management to be an effective tool for product authentication, international government entities and global supply chain stakeholders must ensure accessibility and traceability of pertinent product identity information.

Objectives
To enable secure integration and interoperability among stakeholders in industry and government with information on genuine products, suspect parts, and counterfeiters. The workshop will be a forum to gather input from expert stakeholders on:

  • Issues, challenges, requirements and priorities
  • Types of information needed throughout the product lifecycle for:
  • Authenticating products, components, materials
  • Taking action on suspect parts and counterfeiters
  • Actionable plan to enable exchange of pertinent data for product authentication

Questions? Please contact Susan Turner at SEMI (sturner@semi.org)

International visitors must complete and submit a NIST-1260 (prior to the visitors' arrival). Please fax the completed forms to Angela Ellis by e-mail (angela.ellis@nist.gov) or by fax at (301) 948-2067. (The NIST-1260 form can be found at the workshop webpage link below.)

Foreign national visitors and guests who are lawful permanent residents (green card holders) do not need to prepare the NIST-1260. But we must register permanent residents in the NIST online visitor registration system before they arrive at the visitor center. We must still enter the country of citizenship on the online form. Permanent residents must have their "green card" with them as evidence that they are indeed permanent residents. A driver's license is not sufficient.

In the event that a permanent resident has lost his or her green card, then the individual must be registered February 10, 2009, a NIST-1260 must be prepared, and he or she must bring a current passport to gain admission.
