SEMICON Europa to be Held in Stuttgart 9-11 October 2007

BRUSSELS – 23 August 2007 -- More than 800 companies will display manufacturing technologies for semiconductor devices, photovoltaic cells, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) as well as test, assembly and advanced packaging at the annual SEMICON Europa exposition, which is set for 9-11 October at the new Trade Fair Centre Stuttgart ("Messe Stuttgart"). In addition to the exhibition, SEMICON Europa will feature a wide range of business and technical conferences to be held during the week of 8-12 October in the adjacent International Congress Centre (ICS).

“Semiconductor technology is one of the main drivers of the entire industry in Europe and SEMICON Europa demonstrates the regions technological strengths, innovation and collective identity in this future-oriented sector," said Heinz Kundert, president of SEMI Europe. "Europe is leading in telecom and automotive electronics and has successfully diversified into semiconductor related industries like photovoltaic and nanotechnology. As semiconductor device, equipment and material manufacturers are constantly exposed to strategic, technological and market challenges, SEMICON Europa provides the platform to discuss critical issues, strategic milestones and technological breakthroughs. The new "Messe" in Stuttgart offers a state-of-the-art venue to efficiently visit the exhibition, business and technical conferences under one roof."

The SEMICON Europa conferences and programs are organized in four tracks: Semiconductors, Test, Assembly and Advanced Packaging, MEMS/MST, and Photovoltaics. Companies in these categories will also showcase their latest technologies in the dedicated Technology Arena on the show floor.

The Semiconductor track, offers four major events. A seminar entitled, “Semiconductor Equipment Assessment for Nanoelectronic Technologies” on October 10, introduces the SEA-NET project, which is financed by the European Commission and focused on validating emerging manufacturing equipment for advanced process requirements at the 65 nm, 45 nm, 32 nm and 22 nm technology nodes. ‘Lithography Triangle: Resolution, Productivity, Cost Control” on October 10 in the SEMI Technology Arena, Hall A3, presents alternative imaging systems and their value for the European semiconductor industry. “Power, High Voltage & RF Technologies” on 10 October, is a new seminar focusing on the high end of the power consumption spectrum, with an emphasis on technical challenges specific to each application and technology. The 11th Fab Managers Forum to be held on October 12 at Hotel Maritim, Stuttgart, addresses enhancements of "mature" fabs, enabling technologies and R&D in manufacturing; as well as overall asset utilization and competitive cost management.

The Test, Assembly and Packaging track will feature the "9th European Manufacturing Test Conference” on 9 October and the “Advanced Packaging Conference” on 10-11 October (Wednesday and Thursday) with innovation and cost-efficiency as the main theme.

The MEMS/MST track will highlight the International MEMS/MST Forum, to be held on Monday 8 October with sessions dedicated to processes, R&D, applications and markets.

In the Photovoltaic track, the “3d Advanced Photovoltaic Manufacturing Technology Conference” on 10-11 October will feature mass-production of bulk crystalline silicon photovoltaics and of thin-film photovoltaics.

Other programs at SEMICON Europa include: “Strategies for Intellectual Property Management on 11 October, “EU Funding Opportunities” on 8 October, “Access to Finances in Europe” on 9 October, a ‘Market Briefing’ on 9 October, and a REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) regulation workshop on 11 October.

SEMICON Europa also serves as the industry venue to develop semiconductor and MEMS standards. More than 30 SEMI International Standards meetings, including workshops and Standards Technical Education Programs (STEP) will be held during the week.

Also, as part of the SEMI effort to support recruitment of a highly-skilled workforce, SEMI is hosting an “Electronic Job Fair” on the exhibition site. Job offers will be displayed on the Exhibition Floor and on the Web to facilitate on-site meetings with young graduates.
