First Round of Courses to Cover GEM300, EDA Standards

SAN JOSE, Calif. and WILLISTON, Vermont, May 17, 2005 -- The Standards Technology Group Inc. (STG) and SEMI today announced a partnership to provide SEMI standards training and online courses to the semiconductor industry.

Under the terms of the agreement, the SEMI standards courses will be designed and presented by STG and marketed by SEMI. Seminars are now available for GEM300 and EDA standards. On-line courses will be available starting in July 2005 and will initially cover 200mm and 300mm factory automation standards (E4, E5, E37.1, E40, E84, E87, E90, E94), EDA standards (E125, E132, E134) and the EPT standard (E116).

“Over the past 30 years SEMI has published more than 700 standards for the semiconductor and related microelectronics industries,” said Bettina Weiss, SEMI’s director for International Standards and MEMS. “SEMI is pleased to be working with STG to provide educational courses that have the potential to transform standards beyond traditional reference material, making them easier to learn and readily accessible to the industry.”

“SEMI standards represent an enormous long term achievement by the SEMI standards organization as well as countless industry volunteers and organizations,” said David Walsh, president of STG. “However, much of this wealth of information goes untapped primarily due to the need for extensive training programs and educational material.”

STG’s educational programs will include traditional face-to-face two and three day courses on standards that are of the highest interest to industry. However, STG will focus much of its effort on developing a suite of on-line standards courses and reference resources. SEMI member companies qualify for a 10 percent discount on all courses taken.

The courses are designed so that users learn at their own pace, with reviews and exams conducted at appropriate times to determine when more study is needed. Each course introduces the student to the standard in easy to understand language, and highlights why the standard was developed in the first place. Each course will provide tools to more dynamically access the standard through reports, filters, interrelated linking and search mechanisms.
