SMC 2011 to Highlight Innovations and Market Trends in the Semiconductor Materials Sector
Advanced Materials as the Driving Force of Future Technology; Conference Details Supply Chain Trends, Forecasts and Challenges
SAN JOSE, Calif. — November 18, 2010 —Continued advancement of the global microelectronics industry is increasingly dependent on the identification, use and optimization of specialty chemicals, gases and compounds. These technological developments and market issues in the materials industry will be discussed by semiconductor industry executives gathered for the SEMI Strategic Materials Conference (SMC) on January 12-14 in Half Moon Bay, Calif. This year’s conference theme is “Materials Innovation: Catalyst for Success.” The conference will highlight the importance of materials as a key element for innovation and success in the semiconductor market and in dynamic and emerging markets such as PV, LEDs and biomedical.
Advanced materials are critical for today’s complex micro and nano scale devices in semiconductor, PV, LED and other applications. At SMC, industry professionals meet to discuss common strategic issues, market data and forecasts, emerging business opportunities, and changing dynamics in the supply chain. The conference has a new structure this year, with changes to both increase content and provide more collaboration opportunities to the key electronics materials supplier base. Industry analysts and top technical experts will present their views on the key trends and market forecasts of all the top materials categories.
Among the highlights at this year’s SMC are new high-growth markets in High-Brightness LEDs and exciting biomedical applications. Executives from Aixtron and Applied Materials will present information on the latest advances and LED manufacturing and new developments in stretchable electronics for eyeballs, brain monitors and other medical applications will be discussed by experts from leading universities.
New this year is a Wednesday joint session for attendees of both the Industry Strategy Symposium 2011and SMC. The session begins with a focus on critical customer inputs and technology roadmap perspectives from leading global device companies including Intel, Micron and GLOBALFOUNDRIES. Then Novellus chairman Rick Hill explores the current outlook and judgment of leading investment and financial analysts covering the sector in the lively “Streetviews Panel.” The joint session concludes with the “Blue Chip CEO Panel,” which offers strategic perspectives and executive insights from ATMI, Cymer, Cabot Microelectronics, JSR Corporation, and Synopsys.
On Thursday, SMC keynote speakers include: Nobu Koshiba, president, JSR Corporation; Gary Patton, vice president, Semiconductor Research & Development Center, IBM Systems and Technology Group; and Andrew Thompson, co-founder and CEO, Proteus Biomedical. The keynotes are followed by a semiconductor technology session that addresses the needs of a mature market versus the needs of emerging and adjacent markets, including nano-scale devices, flexible electronics, LEDs, PV and more. The day ends with a supply chain analysis session. Continuing the momentum, the Friday sessions take a detailed look at market growth growth, trends and drivers behind the electronics materials markets.
