SEMI Announces Opening Keynotes at SEMICON Japan 2008

Sustainability —the Future of Semiconductors

TOKYO, Japan – November 12, 2008 – SEMI today announced information about the opening keynote and opening ceremony for SEMICON Japan, which will be held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, December 3-5, 2008. On Wednesday, December 3, 2008, the exposition will feature four keynotes focusing on the theme of sustainability from multiple perspectives including environmental, corporate social responsibility and human resource development, and will be delivered by leaders representing both industry and government.

Keynotes topics and speakers include “Green IT Initiatives; for Environment-Conscious IT Society,” by Takeho Hoshino, director of the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; “Revival Strategy for Continued Growth,” by Masashi Muromachi, corporate senior executive vice president at Toshiba Corporation; “Saving the Earth and Creating the Future through the Semiconductor Industry,” by Tetsuro Higashi, chairman and CEO of Tokyo Electron, Ltd.; and “Moore’s Law, green IT and the Future of Semiconductors,” by Frank Huang, chairman of Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation.

Keynotes will be preceded by the SEMICON Japan Opening Ceremony, which will be held from 9:30-10:00 at the central entrance of the International Exhibition Hall (2nd floor of hall 5) at the Makuhari Messe. The opening ceremony will feature a number of executive speeches including remarks on behalf of device manufacturers from Frank Huang, chairman of Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation; and remarks on behalf of exhibitors by Fumio Kitajima, chairman of the SEMICON Japan 2008 Advisory Committee. In addition, the event will feature a ceremonial ribbon cutting and opening entertainment featuring traditional Japanese drumming.

The opening ceremony and opening keynotes are free of charge to exposition attendees, though pre-registration is required. The second round of registrations is now open at www.semiconjapan.org.
