Workforce Development

SEMI helps supports the human capital needs of our members through a variety of products, programs and initiatives, including training programs, books, instructional material, job fairs, and public policy advocacy. The SEMI Foundation was formed in 2003 to support education and awareness of the field of high technology, and manages the world-renown, “High Tech U” program. SEMI High Tech U

For the past eight years, the SEMI Foundation has reached over 30,000 students in the US, Europe and Asia, with its innovative workforce development program, SEMI® High Tech U™ (HTU). SEMI High Tech U is an industry-driven math and science-based career exploration program for high school-age students and teachers. With 96 programs to date, targeted at students as well as teachers, HTU has successfully exposed these high school-aged students to educational and career opportunities in the math, science and technology fields.

Training

SEMI provides the semiconductor community with top quality technical programs around the world. With topics ranging from manufacturing issues, environment, health and safety (EHS), technological innovation, and industry trends, content is carefully developed through technical committees, often in collaboration with other top level industry associations like IEEE, SPIE, and MEPTEC, to ensure value and relevance. | More information |

Public Policy

SEMI supports efforts to update the U.S. immigration system as it relates to high-skills immigration. The present system needs to be changed to ensure that graduates in the critical fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) are able to pursue their careers in the United States. Currently, these workers are admitted under the H-1B visa program. However, H-1B visa shortages continue, limiting U.S. employers’ access to highly-educated workers.

SEMI offers a variety of training and reference materials for the semiconductor professional. We offer training videos, reference books, and industry posters. We also partner with leading training organizations to deliver workshops on SEMI Standards applications, professional development, and technical development. | More information |

	SEMI Foundation Helps Prepare Teachers to Advise Students in Austria, Singapore, and United States The twin challenges of exciting high school students about math and science, and improving their proficiency in these subjects, continue to be important concerns for countries everywhere. Our industry depends on students entering colleges and universities motivated to pursue high tech careers.

	Expanding Sponsor Base Energizes SEMI Foundation's 2007 High Tech U Program Outr This year a growing number of new High Tech U sponsors have signed on to help expand the program in the U.S., Japan and Europe, ensuring that the SEMI Foundation's High Tech U program will reach more students in 2007 than in any previous year.

	SEMI HTU Students go Green in June High Tech U, a program to encourage high school students to pursue careers in science and technology, recently expanded their curricula to include advanced clean technologies, including solar and nanotechnology.

	Recognizing the Drivers—Sustainable Sponsors of the SEMI Foundation SEMI High Tech U (SEMI HTU) delivered 59 programs internationally. While the core program is sustained by companies such as Applied Materials, Air Products, Intel, ASML and Novellus, there is still a need to fund the development of new modules for the core program, as well as the scholarships granted to students that participate.

	SEMI High Tech U Helping Companies Achieve Community Outreach Objectives SEMI High Tech U is seen as an important program for a growing number of companies working in their local communities to help develop a high-tech workforce.

	2007 SEMI Pacific Northwest Committee Scholarships The SEMI Foundation and the Pacific Northwest Steering Committee of SEMI are offering three $2,000 scholarships that may be awarded to High School and University applicants for the 2007/2008 school year.

	High Tech U Fluent in French, Japanese in March High Tech U will expand its global reach with programs in France and Japan in March. Now in its sixth year, High Tech U helps young people explore opportunities in science and technology.

	SEMI High Tech U Debuts in France to Great Success The SEMI High Tech U for secondary school students recently expanded its international reach in Crolles, France. The program encourages students to take math, science and technology courses, and pursue careers in the microelectronics industry.

Get Involved/Upcoming Events

	SEMI Foundation High Tech U and Events Calendar Salt River Project (SRP) has partnered with MATEC, to introduce students at Tolleson High School to the science and career opportunities of the microelectronics, solar, biofuels, and other high tech industries through the SEMI High Tech U program. The hands-on program runs March 17 to 19 at Glendale Community College, will have a renewable energy focus introducing students to one of the region’s growing technology sectors.
