SEMI Presents North America Government Leadership Award to Sen. Gillibrand (D-NY)
On April 29, SEMI recognized Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) with the industry’s 2009 North American Government Leadership Award. This award was established in 2004 to recognize policymakers in the United States who have demonstrated outstanding leadership on issues and policies that advance the development and growth of the advanced manufacturing industries served by SEMI member companies. The recipients of the award are selected by the SEMI North American Advisory Board. The award is presented in conjunction with the SEMI Washington Forum.
Leo Berlinghieri, CEO and president of MKS Instruments and chairman of the SEMI North America Advisory Board presented the award. Berlinghieri explained, “Senator Gillibrand has established herself as a champion for our industry and our policy issues.” He continued, "Now more than ever, we need solid leadership in the Congress to fight for R&D funding for basic research, a permanent R&D tax credit, workforce development, and solar energy."
“On behalf of SEMI members in North America, we are pleased to present the award to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand,” said Jonathan Davis, president of SEMI North America. “During her tenure with the House of Representatives, she co-founded and co-chaired the House High Tech Caucus and co-sponsored the R&D tax credit legislation. We look forward to her continued leadership in the Senate on high-tech and renewable energy issues.”
