SEMI Americas Public Policy

SEMI Americas is a strong advocate for the best interests of the manufacturing supply chains for the microelectronic, display and photovoltaic industries. By engaging U.S. policymakers on critical issues, we positively influence policies and laws that support the growth of our industry. We help our members thrive in the competitive global marketplace.

Critical Issues

High-skilled Immigration Reform: The H-1B visa remains an important tool for hiring foreign nationals who receive their advanced degrees from U.S. universities.

R&D Funding: The federal government should fund basic science programs at the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and other agencies to ensure that the United States has the necessary infrastructure to fuel continuous advances in microelectronics technologies.

R&D Tax Credit: SEMI has been working on behalf of its members on reforming the business tax code for many years and the opportunity to see that change now affected is becoming more likely than any time in the 21st century.

Trade Policy: SEMI supports the expansion of international trade and investment as the single-biggest opportunity for industry growth.

Intellectual Property: SEMI advocates strong Intellectual Property (IP) protection to encourage and support innovation in high technology.  For more information on IP, please click here.

Innovation and Competitiveness: SEMI advocates for government support of basic research, math and science education, and tax policies that encourage R&D.

Solar Energy: SEMI strongly supports government programs and education efforts to advance solar power throughout the world.
