Leadership and Learning

For a 1963 speech, President John F. Kennedy wrote, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”

It may sound obvious that leadership and learning go hand-in-hand, but it’s a struggle for many of us given the demands of everyday business and the multitude of regular emergencies we each face in our daily duties, especially through leaner economic times.

As the recession recedes and a recovery takes hold, take a fresh look at SEMICON West as both a leadership and a learning opportunity… one that’s right around the corner (July 13-15).

In summary, I’ll quote another notable learning and leadership expert, Noel Tichy, former head of General Electric Co.’s renowned leadership development center and professor at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He says that winning companies instill a “virtuous teaching cycle.”

This principle applies, not just to individuals and within organizations, but also to entire industries. If we are not learning, we are not growing. Knowledge sharing, learning and teaching are indispensible to progress.
