SEMI projects that worldwide sales of new semiconductor manufacturing equipment will contract 13.3 percent to $32.0 billion in 2013, according to the SEMI Year-end Forecast  In 2014, all regions except Rest of World are expected to have strong positive growth, resulting in a global increase of 23.2 percent in sales.

Press Release: Slight Decline in Third Quarter 2013 Silicon Wafer Shipments
Total silicon wafer area shipments were 2,341 million square inches during the most recent quarter, a 2.0 percent decrease from the 2,390 million square inches shipped during the previous quarter. New quarterly total area shipments are 2.0 percent lower than third quarter 2012 shipments. 

Given the industry's anemic performance during the first part of the year, a number of analysts have recently downgraded their 2013 semiconductor revenue forecasts to low-single digits, while forecasting stronger growth in 2014.
