From the SEMI® North America President

Jonathan Davis, President, SEMI North AmericaSolar Policy in the U.S.
The U.S. government is actively implementing the provisions of the economic stimulus bill with two recent announcements favorable to the solar/PV industry. SEMI member companies are encouraged to review the details of these two new programs and determine if they are eligible: Manufacturing Tax Credit (MTC) and grant in lieu of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC)...

Many states are contemplating Feed-In-Tariffs (FITs), or performance based incentives, to accelerate the deployment of PV power... (more)

The Battle of the Fantastic Six: Increased Fab Spending in 2010
By Christian Gregor Dieseldorff, SEMI Industry Research and Statistics
SEMI's World Fab Forecast predicts 64% growth in fab spending for 2010 to reach $24 billion. A large portion (about $14 billion) comes from a handful of companies, the "Fantastic Six," that have announced ambitious investment plans.

Allen Lu Named President of SEMI China
Allen Lu, Ph.D. has been appointed the president of SEMI China. Lu assumes responsibility for the association's programs, products and services in China. He will oversee relationships with SEMI members, government and academia in the region.

Industry Forecast: Positive Vibrations

SEMI PV Group Announces PV Lobby Day
SEMI has a strong record on lobbying in support of pro-solar policies. To build on these efforts, we are organizing a solar-specific lobby day for October 1, 2009.

Feed-in Tariffs Need a Role in U.S. Energy Policy
By Dan Martin, SEMI PV Group
While significant progress has been made in government funding and support of solar power in the U.S., the most effective renewable energy policy and solar incentive available—the feed-in tariff—has not received major attention outside of the EU.

SEMI F47: Power Quality Concerns in Chinese Fabs
Due to the sensitivity of equipment and process controls, semiconductor fabs require high levels of power quality. Voltage sags are the number one power quality problem for equipment.
