End of a Drought? 2009 capex Spending Up with More than Fifty 300 mm Projects By Christian Gregor Dieseldorff, SEMI Industry Research and Statistics In 2009, more than 50 fab equipping projects and 21 fab construction projects for 300mm lead the way to strong positive growth rates. Which technology node has the most spending and which companies are ramping up capacity?
Despite the Gloom, Taiwan to See a Big Turnaround in 2009 By Lara Chamness, SEMI Industry Research and Statistics It has been a challenging year for all involved in the semiconductor equipment market. Taiwan is expected to experience the largest decline this year with a forecasted contraction of 37% this year. However, Taiwan will experience the strongest rebound in 2009.
Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey Shows Strengths and Shortcomings SEMI conducted a Customer Satisfaction Survey to assess the association's effectiveness in meeting member needs. Along with other Voice of the Customer programs, the customer satisfaction survey provides essential feedback that ensures continuous improvement on SEMI product quality, services and member satisfaction.
SEMI PV Activities Expand Worldwide SEMI PV activities are expanding worldwide, driven by SEMI PV Group Advisory Committees, and important partnerships with other PV and solar organizations. The SEMI PV Group is comprised of SEMI members active in PV, committees, and dedicated staff resources in Europe, North America, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, and China.

Semiconductor Materials: A Bright Spot in Tough Times By Lara Chamness, SEMI Industry Research and Statistics There has been a fair amount of discussion about the current state or downturn that our industry is currently in. However, this topic primarily pertains to the equipment sector, not the chip and materials segments.
Tsao Presents on SEMI PV Group at Malaysia's National PV Conference Terry Tsao, president of SEMI South East Asia (SEA), presented SEMI's global activity in the Photovoltaic (PV) industry at Malaysia's National PV Conference 2008 (NPVC 2008), held on August 14 at Malaysia's administrative capital, Putrajaya.
Consumer Markets Spur Strong and Steady Growth for MEMS Burgeoning demand for a host of new products enabled by MEMS devices means the sector will likely see a healthy increase this year despite any general semiconductor slowdown. The sector is expected to maintain its 17% average growth for the next five years.
SEMI Quick Polls are statistically invalid and do not necessarily represent the interests or views of SEMI members or the semiconductor industry.
Next Step in the 450 mm Debate Scheduled for ITPC in November The ongoing debate on wafer size transition looks to have its next milestone at the International Trade Partner Conference (ITPC), scheduled for November 3-5 in Hawaii.
27 Business and Technical Programs at SEMICON Europa Over 600 exhibitors and 27 business and technical programs will be featured at SEMICON Europa. Register before 19 September to benefit from early-bird prices.
EHS Workshop for PV, FPD SEMI EHS is holding a free half-day EHS workshop on September 10 at SEMICON Taiwan. The workshop is intended for personnel at PV and FPD manufacturing sites.
SEMI Foundation Helps Prepare Teachers to Advise Students—in Austria, Singapore, U.S. Is it important that teachers understand the science of making semiconductors? The SEMI Foundation thinks so! Teachers also need to learn about math- and science-based careers in high tech fields so they can advise their students about career pathways.
