A Glimpse into the China TFT-LCD Market

China has become a major hub in electronics manufacturing and is a dynamic geographic area of the electronics industry. Sizeable investments are occurring in China for the thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) industry sector.

Fuel Cell Cars Running Ahead of Interim Roadmap Targets
Fuel cell car technology is ahead of the Department of Energy roadmap’s interim performance targets. The California Fuel Cell Partnership now has 143 hydrogen demonstration vehicles on the road, in use by UPS, AC Transit, and, next, the US Postal Service.

U.S. Government Proposes New China Export Licensing Policy
The U.S. Government has proposed several substantive changes to export licensing policy for China, which is open for public comment with input due by November 3, 2006. This is a high priority issue for the industry and SEMI will submit comments. 

SEMI Forms New IP Working Group
SEMI recently formed a working group of member company volunteers to provide expertise and guidance on intellectual property issues. The IP working group is focused primarily on U.S. activities as a complement to the efforts in other SEMI regions.

Best Practices Paper on IP Protection Available
SEMI North America is working on a range of IP activities, including a commissioned paper called "Intellectual Property Best Practices for a Global Marketplace" to help promote strong IP protection in the industry.

House SKIL Bill Introduced by Rep. John Shadegg
Recently, Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) introduced the House of Representatives’ version of the Securing Knowledge, Innovation, and Leadership Act (H.R. 5744), also known as the SKIL Bill, which contains critical H-1B visa and green card provisions.
