The Battle of the Fantastic Six: Increased Fab Spending in 2010
By Christian Gregor Dieseldorff, SEMI Industry Research and Statistics
SEMI's World Fab Forecast predicts 64% growth in fab spending for 2010 to reach $24 billion. A large portion (about $14 billion) comes from a handful of companies, the "Fantastic Six," that have announced ambitious investment plans.

Allen Lu Named President of SEMI China
Allen Lu, Ph.D. has been appointed the president of SEMI China. Lu assumes responsibility for the association's programs, products and services in China. He will oversee relationships with SEMI members, government and academia in the region.

Industry Forecast: Positive Vibrations

Feed-in Tariffs Need a Role in U.S. Energy Policy
By Dan Martin, SEMI PV Group
While significant progress has been made in government funding and support of solar power in the United States, the most effective renewable energy policy and solar incentive available—the feed-in tariff—has yet to receive major attention outside of the Europe Union.

SEMI F47: Power Quality Concerns in Chinese Fabs
Due to the sensitivity of equipment and process controls, semiconductor fabs require high levels of power quality. Voltage sags are the number one power quality problem for equipment, because a 200 millisecond voltage sag could easily trigger EMO (emergency off) on various tools and cause productions lines to go down for hours.
