From the SEMI® Europe President
Survey Shows Strengths and Shortcomings
I would like to thank you for your input to the SEMI annual Customer Satisfaction Survey. SEMI Europe received 412 responses, an excellent response.
The results indicate that overall customer satisfaction has improved in Europe— 69% of members now give SEMI an "acceptable" and "above acceptable" rating compared to 63% last year. The SEMI Europe office works hard on improving performance. Indeed, the survey shows that satisfaction with SEMI Europe products, publications, events, and services has increased from last year— jumping from 54% to 68%...(more)

Equipment Spending Growth to Resume in 2009... Maybe By George Burns, Strategic Marketing Associates The current financial crisis should have a negative effect on chip sales for the remainder of the year. Equipment sales, slumping since 2007, will not see a recovery until 2009. Equipment sales to memory manufacturers should begin increasing their equipment sales by the second quarter of next year.
SEMI Acquires SEC/N to Better Address 200 mm/150 mm Fabs To more effectively support the needs of members and customers in the 200 mm/150 mm fab market, SEMI has acquired SEC/N®, the Surplus Equipment Consortium Network.
Energy Conservation Tops the Agenda at SEMICON Europa Energy conservation is an issue for all levels of the semiconductor industry supply chain. Suppliers and users need to jointly drive reduction in energy consumption and lower the industry's carbon footprint. SEMICON Europa (October 7–9) will focus on increasing awareness of the industry's energy conservation issues.
Expanded and Improved: Visit the New SEMI Website With over eight million page views per year, the SEMI website is often used to meet the information needs of SEMI members. To improve service to members, SEMI launched a new global website (www.semi.org/europe) on September 26.
PV Industry Struggles With EHS Challenges The PV industry has experienced tremendous growth over the past five years. With so many new production facilities, thousands of workers are interfacing with complex and potentially dangerous systems. SEMI EHS organized PV industry representatives from throughout Asia to meet at PV Power Taiwan on September 10 to discuss the growing challenges in EHS.

SEMICON Recognized as Leading Trade Show Brand SEMICON® trade shows really stand out from the pack. That's why the publishers of Trade Show Executive awarded SEMICON the Grand Award for the "Leading Brand."
Visitor Registration Now Open for SEMICON Japan 2008 SEMI today announced that visitor registration for SEMICON Japan 2008 is now open. The event, held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan on December 3–5, is the world's largest exposition for semiconductor equipment and materials.
PV Industry Set for Fast Growth—with Bumps The solar PV market will be worth about $150 billion by 2015—with half the market dominated by thin film technologies. The thin film equipment market will grow from $1.3 billion (2006) to about $13 billion in 2011, but crystalline silicon technology will remain the PV market leader in the near future.
Bridging the Gap between Teachers and Industry Industry leaders and teachers operate in completely different worlds, yet teachers everywhere influence students' career choices. Teachers really need to understand opportunities in high-tech fields. That's why SEMI recently offered the High Tech U "Teachers Edition" in the Albany region of New York.
Industry Leaders Outline 3D TSV Revolution In 2007, Through Silicon Via (TSV) technology had an impact in many equipment and materials suppliers revenues. Analysts agree that 3D-TSC wafers could account for as much as 6% of the total semiconductor industry and 25% of the memory market by 2015. Equipment and materials markets for manufacturing TSV ICs are growing. Key TSV drivers and challenges were discussed at SEMICON Taiwan.
