Eric Y. T. Chuo was born in Hsinchu, Taiwan. He graduated from Tamkang University with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting & Statistics. He obtained his MPA from the University of San Francisco and later passed the National public examines in which he received a finance certification. In 1983, as a representative of Chiao Tung Bank, he was able to successfully guide San Shing Hardware Works Co., Ltd. through some of its struggles in Tainan. In doing so, he transformed the company’s business model and shifted its industry focus which netted him two achievement awards. Thereafter, he entered the linear motion industry.

Mr. Chuo founded Hiwin Technologies Corp. in 1989, hoping to form a company like no others had before him. Hiwin relies on building and maintaining a certain set of core competencies while gaining technique independence. Normally, OEM’s are constrained by customers; taking OEM orders can not generate long-term profit but just make a company work for others. Mr. Chuo understood that it was necessary to gain competitive advantage over other companies in the industry field through innovative technique independence, something that most Taiwanese companies lack. Hence, Mr. Chuo attacked the problem through use of creative and sophisticated invention while simultaneously developing brand management.

The name “HIWIN” means to expect to become a “High-Tech Winner”. Hiwin was the first company in the world to obtain ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 certifications in the linear motion manufacturing fields. The main product lines are Ballscrews, Linear Guideways, and Robots. Hiwin not only established overseas subsidiaries and R&D centers in Germany, USA, Japan, Switzerland, Cezch Republic, and Russia, but it also set up a global marketing infrastructure that spans the whole world. It supplies its products to machinery industries, automation equipment industries, semi-conductors industries, optical electric industries, medical industries, and transportation industries. On top of that, Hiwin is also one of the top five professional precise linear motion products manufacturers worldwide.
